Google reveal their new logo
Google has managed to set news and social media ablaze by revealing their new branding and with it fresh identities for all their applications and services.

On their official blog they have stated:
“This isn’t the first time we’ve changed our look and it probably won’t be the last, but we think today’s update is a great reflection of all the ways Google works for you across Search, Maps, Gmail, Chrome and many others. We think we’ve taken the best of Google (simple, uncluttered, colourful, friendly), and recast it not just for the Google of today, but for the Google of the future.”
To accompany the new logo they have developed an entirely new typeface called ‘Product Sans’ which replaces the one they have used since 1999 that was based on type Catull. This new typeface does away with the well known serif in favour of a simple almost childlike san serif. On their design blog Google explained:
“In tandem with developing the logotype, we created a custom, geometric sans-serif typeface to complement the logo in product lockups and supporting identity materials. We call it Product Sans. The typeface design takes cues from that same schoolbook letter-printing style, but adopts the neutral consistency we’ve all come to expect from a geometric sans serif. This allows us to maintain an appropriate level of distinction between the Google logotype and the product name.”
Finally alongside the new branding they have produce a small video that shows just how much Google has grown and evolved in the past 17 years.
